Introduction of Second Rural Transport Improvement Project(RTIP-II) in Bangladesh

 

(Part I) Second Rural Transport Improvement

 

Project(RTIP-II) in Bangladesh is introduced by Dr. Jung-Kil Yoo PhD

 

& Professional Engineer as Team Leader of Management Support Consultancy

 

(MSC) for more than four years From the Beginning of the projects.

 

 

The Government of Bangladesh(GOB) has received a credit from International Development Association(IDA) of World Bank for Second Rural Transport Improvement Project(RTIP-II), which was implemented by the Local Government Engineering Department(LGED) under Local Government Division(LGD) of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives(MLGRD&C). A preparatory study for the abovementioned project as a follow-up of RTIP-I has been completed. This study will identify rural transport related infrastructure including inland water transport and maintenance needs of Munshigonj, Narayangonj, Narsingdi, Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Sherpur, Netrokona, Kishoregoni, Comilla, B-Baria, Chandpur, Sylhet, Hobigonj, Sunamgonj, Moulvibazar, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, districts.

 

The total project cost is estimated to be about US $ 432 million including physical contingencies and provision for price increases. The RTIP-II is a five-year project commencing from November 2012 and covering 26 of the 64 administrative districts of Bangladesh with a total of 224 Upazilas(sub-districts). LGED selected consulting firm as Design and Supervision Consultancy(D&SC) in two separate contract packages, namely Contract Package R-1 and Contract Package R-2. The Contract Package R-1 comprises the districts of Pabna, Sirajgonj, Tangail, Dhaka, Manikgonj, Gazipur, Narayangonj, Narsingdi, Mymensingh, Tamalpur, Sherpur, Netrokona, Kishoregonj, while R-2 comprises Munshigonj, Comilla, B-Baria, Chandpur, Sylhet, Hobigonj, Sunamgonj, Moulvibazar, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar districts. On the other hand, LGED selected consulting firm as Management Support Consultancy(MSC). Dr. Jung-kil Yoo Ph.D & Professional Engineer was appointed as Team Leader of MSC in order to oversee the activities of two design and Supervision Consultancy(D&SC) services so that RTIP-II could implement the project efficiently and effectively. The concerned Terms of Reference(TOR) is intended to procure the services of Contract Package MS-1.
